After reading Data Makes the Difference: The Smart Nurse’s Handbook for Using Data to Improve Care, you will be able to:

  • Comprehend quality data and quality measurements.
  • Utilize data to inform patient care and track outcomes.

This book is a clear, concise overview of how data are created and how they increasingly shape the world in which nurses practice. It will inspire many to greater accountability for patients, communities and systems of care.
We are in an emerging era of metric-driven, accountable care, and quantitative outcomes [ensure] the presence of core excellence. Nursing’s contributions through performance metrics provide evidence of the impact of nursing on the patient experience, the health of the practice environment, and clinical practice processes and outcomes. Glassman is right, data makes the difference. This text should be required reading for those engaged in quantifying the impact of teamwork on patient safety, clinical outcomes and the emergence of nurses as designers of high-quality, effective patient-centric teams
